Upcoming deadlines
The next State Fiscal Year 2025 state-only capital grant deadline is November 30, 2024. Any airport that received a grant and indicated it was proceeding with a project needs to submit a complete grant request letter to MnDOT Aeronautics development staff by that date. If an airport sponsor is unable to meet that date, it should discuss options with its MnDOT regional staff representative.

The annual Minnesota Airport Directory cover photo contest is now open. This is your chance to showcase your photography skills and creativity by capturing the beauty, excitement, and spirit of our state's aviation scene. The winning photo will not only be featured on the cover but will also receive recognition across MnDOT’s social media channels. New airport facilities unveiled
This past summer, Minnesota gained a number of new airport facilities around the state.
On May 10, the Fillmore County Airport arrival-departure building was officially inaugurated, marking a significant milestone. Read more about this in the June 2024 issue of Briefings.
The new Glencoe Municipal Airport arrival/departure building opened in June. See a related article on Glencoe’s airport.
Thief River Falls Regional Airport celebrated the grand opening of its new air cargo hangar in June. The 27,648 square-foot hangar can fit two CRJ200 aircraft and has a concrete apron able to carry the weight of a fully loaded 757 jet or other similar cargo aircraft. The hangar features high-strength fabric lifting doors that are lightweight yet effective at retaining heat and keeping out the cold. Other amenities include a conference room, wellness room, locker room, kitchenette, additional office space, restrooms, and a high-expansion, PFAS-free foam fire suppression system.
Duluth Sky Harbor Airport opened its new terminal building in July. The $2.66 million project, which meets floodplain and ADA requirements, features an upscale pilot lounge, modern flight planning room, vending options, and public outdoor patio areas.
