Two Harbors Helgeson Municipal Airport has officially opened its new arrival-departure (AD) building—marking a major step forward for aviation access along Minnesota’s North Shore. Completed in the fall of 2025, the terminal is enhancing comfort and convenience for the more than three dozen based aircraft and steady monthly traffic that call the airport home.

Helgeson Airport was one of only 109 airports nationwide selected for Airport Terminal Program (ATP) funding during federal fiscal year 2024. The $1.2M project received support from multiple partners, including the FAA ATP and a state IIJA match. Strong collaboration from the City of Two Harbors, MnDOT Office of Aeronautics, Bolton & Menk, Max Gray Construction, and DSGW Architects made the project possible.

“This ‘simple’ building brings outsized value—supporting travelers, strengthening local industry, and welcoming visitors to Two Harbors and the North Shore,” says Ryan Gaug, MnDOT Aeronautics director.
